What is gratitude and how to practice it

Imagine waking up every morning with thinking that this new day is the most beautiful gift, that you are living and are part of the living world, that no matter the problems and difficulties you may be experiencing… you know that living is the most precious thing. If you don’t have the courage and the ability to imagine and feel grateful that you are living and breathing, then imagine the place you occupy in our vast and infinite universe… a small but a very important creature; one of 8 billion human beings with so many problems – problems that are too small for the universe and the world itself.

Saying “Thank you” is easy but you need to really feel it, if you want to raise your self-awareness and practice gratitude in your life.

To know how to be grateful is an art, is a practice of self development, it enriches our spiritual world and is considered as the essence of a happy life.

If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.
Meister Eckhart

Gratitude is an act of love for yourself and your life, is an act of respect for life itself and our creator.

You often complain about life not being fair to you and not getting what you want. Maybe you are getting what you need, the experience that will wake you up and make you stronger.

Be grateful for everything that is part of your life and do the most to improve your life. Don’t blame, don’t complain but act. Gratitude comes with its responsibilities – you have to learn how to accept your life for what it is.

How to practice gratitude?

Turn your point of view upside down and start noticing the good at everything. I will share with you an example of gratitude from Mother Theresa.

Mother Theresa, one of the first personalities that promoted gratitude during her whole life, used to say that working with the poor and sick children of Calcutta had helped her grow spiritually. So, it was Mother Theresa that was being helped by her sick patients to get spiritually fulfilled and become a better person.

Keep a Gratitude Diary – I have been keeping a gratitude diary since many years. Expressing gratitude is now part of my everyday life. It fulfills me spiritually and helps me see the positive sides of my day and my life.

Gratitude is a way of living. Make it a daily ritual.
